Rocking up at Ilkley to find it was freezing cold and a gale wind was the basis of a good afternoon because at least the snow and frost never showed. With only 5 days left until his jolls, Skipp again sat theis one out and joined DoR Peely on the touchline.
Ilkley's young backs seemed to be amazing during the warm-up, linking with the gnarly old pack and running inch perfect drills. Or so our young uns, the 2 Cossies, told the rest of the team in the dressing room in our own warm up. Or to quote El Dux "Im staying in here, its fucking freezing" These young backs of theirs set the tone early with 2 tries, but playing into the gale the Viscounts defence held firm without getting into the opposition 22 much. Just before HT, Beef pushed a penalty wide.
HALFTIME ILKLEY 12-0 VISCOUNTS
With use of the wind, new lad Jonny who was stepping in at flyhalf, started getting the boys going forward. The Cossie boys were prominent, Spock as always driving hard yards, but basic errors at crucial times meant the hard work went to nothing. A cross kick to the corner was looking like it could produce a try, but from a turnover in his own half resulted in the Ilkley winger scoring a 75 yarder that killed the 'Counts afternoon. As normal, the 'Counts stormed forward and were rewarded with the try they fully derserved when Cossie was taken out chasing his kick and a penalty try was given.
FULLTIME ILKLEY 19-7 VISCOUNTS
In conditions that suited the Ilkley team, the Viscounts badly needed some of the more 'robust' of our forwards! With the missing Sam, Wheelie, Ted, Tebs and Skipp playing, the Blogger is sure that a different result would of happened
